WHEN IS TUTORING AVAILABLE?
Tutoring is always available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:45-3:15 PM. Other times are available by request.
CAN YOU WORK ON THIS CLASS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL?
Yes! You may have to take a few extra steps to save your work onto a flash drive or cloud storage, but you can work on the assignments in this class from any computer with an internet connection (even a chromebook).
IS THERE AN AP TEST FOR THIS COURSE?
If you are in AP Computer Science Principles, there is an AP test at the conclusion of the course which all students are expected to take and pass. If you are in Computer Science 1, there is no AP test. The focus is on building readiness for CS 2 (which contains the AP CS A exam).
WHAT WILL STUDENTS USE TO SUBMIT MATERIALS ONLINE?
Students will use Schoology to turn in assignments online. Students will also be able to download any course materials from Schoology, as well as this website.
Where can I access course materials or a calendar?
WHAT PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE IS USED IN COMPUTER SCIENCE 1?
We will be learning and using the Python and Java Programming Languages. Python will be taught in the 1st semester, it is a rapidly growing language. Java will be taught in the 2nd semester. Java is a great language for beginners. It is also the language used on the AP Computer Science A Exam (CS 2).
What IDE DO We USE To Program PYTHON IN CLASS?
We will be using the IDLE IDE as well as online options such as Repl.it and JDoodle. You are welcome to use an IDE of your choice, but you may be responsible for converting files/packages from one IDE to another.
WHAT IDE DO WE USE TO PROGRAM JAVA IN CLASS?
In class we will be using the BlueJ Integrated Development Environment. BlueJ is a great educational tool for beginner programmers. You are more than welcome to use an IDE of your choice, but all class materials will be distributed in BlueJ package form. We will also have online IDEs available, such as Repl.It and JDoodle.
Do I Need any materials for this course?
No, except for your Student ID and a pencil! We have desktop computers in the classroom for student use. Using class time efficiently, a student should be able to complete all work on the classroom computers. If you have your own computer, you are welcome to use it. A flash drive may be useful for some students, but is not required.
What Programming Language is used in AP Computer Science Principles?
We will be programming in the Python programming language. We may also use Scratch on occasion.
